Te Kōurunui

Kaupapa Māori Rōpū

Sundays 12-3pm(ish) Term Time

Te Kōurunui is our rōpū that meets on Rātapu (Sunday) - it is a space for rangatahi takatāpui (12-25), to be nourished and to thrive. The programme is a mixture of opportunities to engage in mātauranga Māori, and social whakawhanaungatanga. Some days this looks like going on an adventure out in Te Taiao (nature); or we might head to a cinema to see a Māori feature; or meet at Te Tari (our office) to learn a new skill together. At least twice a year we work with Tūhono Taonga, Tūhono Tāngata Trust to carve your own pounamu taonga. Once a season we also head to the hokohoko (op shop) for a gender affirming clothing mission.

There are usually between 8 and 16 attendees every week, with a fairly even spread across our age range. We do whakawhanaungātanga whenever new people join us, so you can get to know everyone. There’s always kai at the start (lunch vibes) and we can help with transport if you need it. We have a few resources that'll help you settle in, like pukapuka for waiata and karakia.

Come as you are, when you can! You do not need to know Te Reo Māori and there is no pressure to attend every week. These sessions are free, including food and transport.
